the sunshine on some of the best
beaches in the world, visit the Lighthouse - The
Cape Florida Lighthouse, or try Crandon
Park Beach meet Miami's biggest star - Lolita the Killer Whale, and
visit some of Dade County's historical sites - all right here on or around
Key
Biscayne, Florida.
Enjoy the Florida sunshine and sweet ocean
air on Crandon
Beach - one of the most photographed beaches in the world. There is
nearly a photo shoot
on one of the many miles of beach on Key Biscayne nearly every day of the
week. Spend some quiet time with a good book under the shade of a
palm tree on the Village
Green while the children play in the water fountain and on the playground
slides and swings. The Village Green is adjacent to the brand new
multi-million dollar Key
Biscayne Community Center which has all popular amentities, a gym,
indoor basketball, heated pool and more. |
Bill
Baggs Cape Florida State Recreation Area is located on the southern
tip of Key Biscayne and is one of the most beautiful natural areas near
Miami. Tours are available of the Cape
Florida lighthouse, a mainstay of the park that has withstood countless
storms without serious damage. The lighthouse, newly restored, stands watch
on the southern end of the island as it has for over 170 years. Picnic
shelters and bicycle rentals are available. Miles of beautiful beaches
and natural settings are not just
for walking and can be enjoyed
by bike, rollerblading, scooters, and of course let's not forget the watersports
and the charter
boats and some of the best fishing or scuba diving is just right off
of shore on amazing artificial reefs made from everything from tug boats
to Airplanes. Yes
Airplanes at 60 feet beneath the surface. The diving is great. The
golf, the tennis, the windsurfing, the kite surfing, just hanging around
is a great thing. If you MUST leave Key Biscayne, here are a few
links to places that are good places. |
Coco
Walk in historical Coconut Grove has a wide selection of shops and
restaurants to choose from. There are also a few night clubs as well as
an AMC Movie Theater. Cocowalk is located about 3 - 4 miles off of
the toll gate and is south of Key Biscayne.
If there is no hotels available
on the Key, the best place to stay in our opinion is in a Coconut
Grove Hotel. |

Located in the heart of Downtown
Miami, the Bayside
Marketplace is a great place for shopping and eating. Home to Hard
Rock Cafe, Miami. To get to downtown and Bayside and the American Airlines
Arena, go north about 3 miles past the toll gate.
South
Beach - The place to be for Miami night life. Nightclubs,
bars, and sidewalk restaurants line the ocean side of South Beach, and
the parties don't end till sunrise, then the eye candy goes to the beach.
The beautiful people sleep around dusk...oh my...

One of the world's pre-eminent
botanical gardens, Fairchild Tropical Gardens,
boasts extensive collections of palms, cycads, and other tropical plants.
Offers guided tours, programs in education, conservation and horticulture.
Very neat, especially if you like plants, you will be in plant heaven as
there are so many specimens and rare plants. Worth the ride south

| A total of 35 species of
primates are represented at Monkey
Jungle including gibbons, guenons, spider monkeys and colubus. Here,
the "humans are caged and the monkeys run wild"! The Java monkeys
do not hesitate to accept peanuts and raisins from the hands of eager children
and adults. Kids love this. It is way out there and will take about
45 minutes from the Key traffic permitting. |
