| Certainly not just a building with books,
the Key Biscayne Branch Library is nestled within an acre of lush tropical
gardens, including a pond that is home to ducks, turtles, and various fish.
The Key Biscayne Branch Library opened
to the public in January, 1985, and the building offers 6,000 square feet
of books, tapes, videos, and computers, including a small auditorium for
regular library events. |
 |
Children love to visit the library gardens
to feed the ducks who live here and to catch a glimpse of the turtles and
fish who nibble at the bread the children sprinkle on the pond. |
It might take you quite some time to make
it along the path from the library parking lot to the actual library building
itself, especially if you have the children with you...
 |
 |
The gardens surrounding the Key Biscayne
Branch Library are filled with hundreds of native plants and offer a refuge
from the rush of day-to-day life.
There is even a "cook's square" that is
filled with spices and herbs for the taking by library visitors.
The library gardens are maintained by residents of Key Biscayne who volunteer
their time and energies to keep the gardens a place of beauty and enjoyment
for everyone. |
| Once inside, visitors are welcomed with
air-conditioning, and the smiling faces of the Key Biscayne library staff.
Visit often enough, and they will even greet you by name.
Besides the expected library materials,
six computers throughout the library feature Internet access, word processing
programs, and over 50 educational games for children. |
 |
A child-size reading table sits near the
children's book section... |
...and ample desk space is provided for
homework projects. |
