CUPOLA
1856

This cast iron cupola, replaced in 1968, was installed on the Cape Florida Lighthouse by U.S. Topographical Engineer, Lt. (later General) George G. Meade who elevated the brick tower (originally built in 1825) from 65 to 95 feet in 1856.  Located at the entrance of Key Biscayne's Cape Florida, it also marks the beginning of the nature path which winds through the entire end of the island paradise, Key Biscayne.
