| Historical coastal hammocks, coast scrub, beach dunes and wetlands are part of the inter-related ecological systems of barrier islands. There are specimens and remnants of ancient hardwood and mangrove hammocks, palm glades, beach vegetation and restored wetlands. These habitats attract diverse native and migratory land and marine animals. The trail winds through existing and restored biological communities. |
