Pelican Point |
| Pelican Preserve lies on the northwestern shore of Bear Cut. Mangrove areas are traditional habitats for the Brown Pelican, an ancient species of bird with a huge bill and a wing span that can reach 90 inches. They dive for fish from heights of 30 feet and fly in V formation. Bird Island Rookery is an offshore protected area for aquatic birds displaced by twentieth century clearing and filling of ancient habitats. It can be seen from Crandon Park Marina. The Ibis Preserve offers sanctuary in natural hammocks for endangered and threatened sea birds including ibis, herons, and spoonbills. |
