1855 |
| At the northern and southern ends of the island, granite markers established an important base line which U.S. Coast Surveyors used to chart and map all reefs and keys between Key Biscayne and Key West, and the adjoining mainland of Florida. For the first time, accurate maps and charts of the region became available. The name of the Superintendent of the U.S. Survey, A.D. Bache, appears on the 1855 monument in the present-day golf course. |
