| One of two remaining Matheson Plantation structures from the coconut plantation, the Cottage is on the Dade County Register of Historic Places. The school teacher's cottage was later converted into the Calusa Playhouse where locals would put on plays for the entire Island to enjoy. A small structure made of Dade County Pine has withstood dozens of Hurricanes, flooding, yet it could not stand the neglect of the past 20 years and is now currently falling apart inside of Calusa Park. |
