HURRICANE HOUSE
1927

Five hundred yards from the ocean, Hurricane House was built as a shelter from storms.  Anchored to 16 foot pilings, the formidable two-story reinforced concrete structure was built after the 1926 hurricane threatened the lives of plantation workers and their families.  In 1951, Hurricane House was dynamited and the site paved.
