WORKER'S DORMITORY
circa 1917

The dormitory housed single workmen, many from the Bahamas, who shared communal patch gardens and outdoor cooking grills in the black community on the Matheson plantation.  Operations stopped in the 1940s, and later the Dade County Pine structure was relocated in Calusa Park, renamed the Calusa Playhouse, and listed on the Dade County Register of Historic Places.
Calusa Playhouse (currently under restoration) and
Calusa Tennis Courts are located at the north end
of the Village of Key Biscayne.
