General Information about The Islander
News
The Islander News is located at 104 Crandon Blvd. on the third
floor of the Key Executive Building (behind the Kentucky Fried Chicken).
Our regular office hours are 9a.m.-5p.m. Monday - Friday.

All news copy must be submitted to The Islander News office
by 5p.m. Monday. All display advertising copy must be received in
our office by 5p.m. Friday. Classified advertisements may be placed until
5p.m. Monday. Early copy is appreciated whenever possible. (Back

How do I get a story or photo
in the newspaper?
The Islander News is always looking for articles of interest
to and about Key Biscayners. If you have an idea for a story, call 361-3333
or stop by the office to discuss it.
If you would like to submit a story about your group or an upcoming
event, a simple press release is appropriate. If you prefer, just jot down
the pertinent facts and we'll put it into story form for you. All articles
are subject to editing.
Our deadline for these releases is 5p.m. Monday, however early copy
is always appreciated when possible. Please bring the release into our
office in advance of deadline day when possible. Include your name and
phone number in case we have any questions.
An advance call pertaining to coverage of an event betters your
chances, as our schedule fills up quickly. (Back to

How do I announce an engagement
or wedding?
We are always happy to print wedding and engagement announcements.
Forms for wedding articles are available at our office. Wedding stories
must be submitted no later than two months after the wedding. As with all
news stories submitted to The Islander News, wedding and engagement
articles are subject to editing to meet our standard formats.
There is no charge for a wedding or engagement announcement. (Back

How do I announce a birth
or a death?
Forms for birth and death announcements are available in our office.
Birth and death announcements must be submitted no later than two months
after the birth or death.

How
do I get my party covered in Beachcombings?
Kari Benson-Owens, who writes our social section Beachcombings,
covers birthday and anniversary parties and other social gatherings
on a first-come, first-served basis. During the high season, Kari's schedule
gets booked up early, so to assure coverage, as soon as possible prior
to the event.
If you have taken photographs of your social event and would like to
submit them for inclusion in Beachcombings, bring them by our office
with a brief description of the event and the identification of the people
in the photograph.

How do I get student news
in the newspaper?
We depend on parents, grandparents and friends to let us know what
their student scholars and athletes are up to.
Briefly jot down the information of interest, awards received, societies
joined, etc., and submit them to our office.

How do I get included in
the Business Beat section?
The Business Beat section contains information on Key Biscayne businesses
or residents in
business off the Key.
If you've expanded your business, hired a new employee or been promoted,
we want to know about it. Business Beat information should be submitted
in person, by mail, fax, or e-mail.
The Profile on Business section is reserved for contract advertisers.

Orchids and Coconuts
To recognize good deeds that might normally go unrewarded, we offer
the "May an Orchid Bloom in the Garden of" section in our newpaper. To
call attention to a misguided deed, we have "May a Coconut fall on the
Head of". Information may be submitted by phone, fax or e-mail. These orchids
and coconuts may be submitted anonymously. (Back to

How do I start a subscription?
Simply stop by our office, call us or send a check and your subscription
can start immediately. Subscription rates are $23.48 annually for home
delivery.
If you are a snowbird, we can have your newspaper forwarded to your
summer address. Nine-month subscriptions are available for college students
who want to keep in touch with what's happening at home.
Newspapers can also be held or stopped while you are on vacation. .

Can I get back copies?
The Islander News keeps a limited number of back copies on file.
We also have bound volumes of the newspaper available for researching
and copying. These bound issues cannot be checked out but may be looked
at during office hours. If you want to see the bound volumes, please call
in advance so we can make our conference room available to you.

Letters to the Editor
If you would like to write a letter to the editor, please submit a
typed or clearly printed letter by mail or in person to The Islander News,
104 Crandon Blvd., Suite 301, Key Biscayne, FL 33149
Letters to this column should exceed no more than two pages of typed,
double-spaced copy. Letters are welcome but please, personal attacks are
not needed to get your point across. Letters are subject to editing.
All letters must be signed; no letter to the editor will be considered
unless your signature is included. We also need your address and phone
number for our files.

Guest Columns
We accept guest columns for the opinion page. This format allows residents
to address a subject in a longer format than the letter to the editor.

How do I place an advertisement?
James Owens is our advertising sales representative who will be glad
to meet with you about your advertising needs. Just call him during our
regular office hours and he'll assist you with any ideas you might have
for your display ad.
Classified ads can be called into our business office . Ads must be
paid for in advance.
Please remember that the deadline for placing a display ad is Friday
at 5p.m. and a classified ad is Monday at 5p.m. (Back
