Crandon Beach - Key Biscayne Florida

It is even pretty when it is stormy at Crandon Park Beach.  In fact for many people, the stormy days, are the days to enjoy the beach when the beach is shaded, the wind is cool, and there are miles of uninterrupted seashore to walk along.  Crandon Park Beach with the Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop only has a few Bahamian Islands to separate us here on this beach with another person looking west on the African coastline thousands of miles away.   Several miles offshore is some of the best offshore fishing as well as deep sea scuba diving among the wrecks. 
As was stated earlier, what keeps the waves and dangerous currents well and truly offshore is 2 mile of gradually sloping sandbars and grass flats.
This makes swimming here as safe and fun in clean and clear water.
On a sunny day, it is a good idea to either have  a series of umbrellas or to stake out a family spot underneath a patch of coconut palm trees as they go pretty fast.  A shady spot on the beach is highly coveted piece of real estate.
Take what you need with you because it is a long way back to the parking lot to get your sunscreen out of the car.
Dune paths lead you over and through the sea oats that contribute to keeping the beach intact during  heavy storms. It is against the law to pic the sea oats though it is very tempting to since the sea oats are very nice to look at and would make a nice artistic decoration. The picture on the right shows a couple nearly 100 yards offshore enjoying the different views of the beach that you can get from here. In some spots around different parts of different sand-bars, you can jump straight into a naturally deep small swim hole made by the ever shifting currents. Great fun!
