Cape Florida Postcards - The bridge is built and opened in 1947 and people flock to Key Biscayne

After the bridge from the mainland was open, Key Biscayne and Cape Florida was open for business and people who have been here from the beginning have never looked back.  Thankfully, the decisions that were made that would affect the generations to come, were made with care and preservation in mind.  Key Biscayne has only a couple of square miles of island that are zoned for habitation.  The miles of park on the north side of the island, and the miles of beach and land that is Cape Florida, cannot be built upon.  This gives property value on Key Biscayne one way to to.  It has done this from the beginning and there are no more islands this close to Miami International Airport, The International banking community of Brickell, the city of Miami, South Beach, Miami Beach, and have all of the natural beauty built into the island itself. Everything that anyone who enjoys the beach, the ocean, and those things that are marine in nature could not be better situated. This is Key Biscayne.

Cape Florida Lighthouse with no condos on the beach
Nothing but scrub, Australian Pines and sugar white sand beaches.

The "Island House" Condominium at the North End of Key Biscayne
is visible over the Australian pines on this post card.
The bottom left hand aerial view of Key Biscayne shows Cape Florida Park on the Southern End of Key Biscayne and Crandon Park on the Northern end of Key Biscayne.  You can see the greenery in both sections and on the northern windward side of the Island, the massive parking lots at Crandon Park are clearly visible.  During the early years of Key Biscayne history (1960's) the Crandon Park Zoo, the fantastic beach, and a park complete with an outdoor roller rink, and all of this traffic filled up these massive parking lots.   The decal on the right was a window decal that was placed in the window of the car to pass the toll gate.  These decals were available at a discounted rate for all island residents.  The decals were later replaced with license tags and eventually to what we have today which is transponders.  The Cape Florida Lighthouse has always figured prominently.
