Fishing at Cape Florida can be
excellent.
The Cape Florida Channel that runs
parallel
to the Southern side of Key Biscayne is the main channel on
this side of
the finger channels that separate
the
flats where the stiltsville houses are built. This means
that there
is a tremendous
current that passes through this
area.
If you get here on the seawall at the right times, when the
tides are moving
in
or out, there are dozens of
different
types of gamefish that travel along with them. The Cape
Florida Channel
moves
paralell to the sea wall on the
southern
side of Cape Florida State Park. On the other side of
the lighthouse,
you
will find that there are different
type
of gamefish present on the grass flats and sand on the
windward side of
the
island of Key Biscayne. You
can
simply cast from shore when you see the bonefish or permit
tails breaking
the
suface of the water very close to
shore,
or, if you canre to wade out and cast, this is equally as
effective.
If you use live bait such as live
shrimp,
or live crab you are close to being guaranteed a catch.
All in all, the fishing at Cape
Florida
is excellent, and typically it is difficult to find a spot
close to the
lighthouse where
the current from the Cape Florida
Channel
is most evident.
Enjoy, and as they say in
fisherman's
terms....Tight lines.
