This Key Biscayne election could be remembered as "the year of the Sign".  Political signs litter the key, with any sign ordinance
 temporarily going out the window.  Some feel the signs make our island look trashy and cheap.  Others believe it is all a necessary part of political strategy and posturing.  But what role do signs really play in an election?  Can anything be determined by the number of signs a candidate has on display? Can one predict vote results by the number of signs around the island?  Does it really affect the vote?

The Webmasters of key-biscayne.com conducted our own study to confirm if there is any correlation between the amount
of yard signs and those who get elected.  In conducting this survey, we followed a few general rules:

• Multiple signs of the same candidate in one yard were counted as one sign for that candidate. (For example, a corner lot with two signs on each side, four signs in the yard, were counted as one sign for that candidate.)
• If a home had every candidates' sign in the yard, they were all ignored and not counted for any candidate.
• Signs that were strategically placed on the property line were ignored.
• Signs were counted the afternoon prior to the election and the morning of the election, believing that all candidates would have placed their signs in front of homes by that time.
• Signs in front of Key Biscayne Elementary School and in front of Key Biscayne Presbyterian Church were not counted.

The total amount of signs, that included those multiple signs on corner lots, vacant lots, easements, public swale area and other places came to a total of 2370 signs displayed throughout the single family home residental area of Key Biscayne. Two thousand, three hundred, and seventy signs.  That's a lot of signs.
