It has been called by
organizers, Peace Fest, Love Fest, and eventually ended up being called
the Family Picnic Sunday. It was a far-out, time warp, flower in
the barrel of the gun, tie-dyed, age of aquarius theme. There was
the "Mamas and the Papas" playing over the speakers as Roller Blades met
acoustic feel good sing-a-longs with the occasional cell phone ringing.

The weather was perfect,
families did show, the children got faces painted and people mingled with
flowers and adult beverages. It was meant to restore and heal rifts
in the community in the wake of the clearly most evident signal to politicians
that this is a community with an ideology split nearly right down the middle.

There was "bonding"
in a non-political atmosphere among those that were already bound
on one ideology, or a lot of no shows from those that were still feeling
the pain. Either way, it seemed a sensible use of the green
space. There was green and space in the green space.
Peace.
