Polarizing Zoning issue - Just say No!
Written by: Ponce DeRaton 03/05/05
Zoning issue polarizes community into two
distinct groups. Residents who care about the island and
the sacred trust of elected officials,
residential zoning, and those who visit here and stay in condos (for the
most part).
Day by day we come closer to the day that
the Village Council will sit before history and hear the Village
Attorney
tell them that they can do what
they want to if they so choose. Man does he have the job or
WHAT?
One by one the Village Council Members
will struggle to ask legal type questions as they field response from the
community as one by one condo dwellers
who don't yet know the Zip plus four for their address will passionately
tell us about an Island without approving
Rabbi Caroline's request is the modern day moral equivalent to Nazi Germany.
Channel 16. Tuesday night, March
15. 7:00 PM.
Here is an idea..... Everyone knows the
lot across the street from the Village Green. This lot is like 3 lots large
and abuts
church parking for the Community Church
which only uses most of the parking when there is a funeral.
Now how perfect is that? Yes of
course it is not zoned for it but it makes more sense than the corner of
Harbor and
Fernwood.....that is for certain.
The Village just slaps a new zoning on the property and bammo, we have
our
Chabad or whatever it is called.
Now for those of you who have been here for any length of time have noticed
that we need a mosque so that we don't
have to drive off of the Key to worship. We also need a Baptist Church
so that we do not have to drive off of
the Key to worship. You get the idea.
There are 4 churches here on Key Biscayne
and Rabbi and his bunch will want everyone to believe that this is almost
equal to the Key Biscayne officially endorsing
those 4 religions while discriminating against our Jewish neighbors.
Just like they did in Germany. Separation
of Church and State (not in the Constitution) may even get a nod by the
high priced attorneys from the prestigious
firm of Greenberg/Taurig as the mild mannered, just the Rabbi next door
lovingly reminds the council that the
Federal Law seems to be on his side.
No.
One word.
No.
Use it.
Alan Fein said that it would be very easy
to say no to other churches that may seek an address on the Island Paradise
and that this zoning variance will not
be cited as a precedent. He even guaranteed that this and parking
would not be
a problem. Oh my. The all
star attorney friend of Chris Matthews of 'Harboiled' Alan Fein guarantee.
Yawn.
No.
No is an excellent precedent to set.
Let them sue. Let them whine. Let them figure out how to get
the Chabad next
to the Community Church or buy the waterfront
land that the Presbyterian Church owns and is not using.
There ARE alternatives but since Rabbi
Caroline does not like them, his attorneys seem poised to make a
Federal
Case out of this. How neighborly
is that? What does this say about what the Rabbi teaches? What
does he teach
any ways, and to whom? Where did
this guy come from and why is this such a big deal??????
Crandon Boulevard. Zoning and Multi-use
and the corner property of Crandon and Harbor. A hint
at why Attorney Gene Stearns and Attorney
Alan Fein are staying up late voicing their approval.
I think that this could also explain why
Borroto and company are all for this idea.
One of the last remaining links to the
past recent history of commercial Key Biscayne.
Imagine for just a moment the Key without
the Oasis where it is.
Shocking isn't it?
More shocking still is the idea that our
residential zoning on Harbor can be changed or is even being CONSIDERED
to be changed is a glimpse at the X-rays
of a spineless council. What happens if Rabbi is very successful and the
congregation grows, or if he just gets
sick of it all and puts it back on the market?
Great idea. Buy a residence, sell an institutionally zoned property.
Sell. Leave Island. Find another spineless
council without a Chabad. One could
make a nice little income from such things. Doncha know.....
No.
Tic tack No.
E eye E eye No.
Marco...... PolNO.
or haven't you seen this television commercial?
So what's in YOUR community council?
Just say NO.
The ONLY thing that is going to persuade
this council that they should nix this idea will be intense public pressure.
Former Mayor John Festa pointed out that
the first read and its approval is probably not even legal in the
first place and yet not a word of this
was spoken on by the Village Attorney or one council member.
Everyone except for Enrique "Brass ones"
Garcia voted NO on the first read.
There is an eerie sense out here that
the die has already been cast and this is going to be approved no matter
what.
Any bets out there?
Just kidding....sort of.

Chabad on Key Biscayne? Just say No. Residential to Institutional zoning issue polarizes residents that actually care about what happens to Key Biscayne.
