The tip of the beach of a bird sanctuary
located at the tip of Key Biscayne. To the right is native vegetation
and palm trees with the Bear Cut bridge in the background. NOAA is
the tall white building on the left horizon of the photograph and across
the street is the Miami Seaquarium. There are fishing areas built
into the Bear Cut bridge and during the changing tides, the fishing can
be quite spectacular here as the current is very strong and most game fish
like a strong current. This picture was also taken right around the
time that the sun was setting, providing a wonderful diffusion of light
across the water and plants. It is just a beautiful place.
At one point in time, this bird sanctuary area was used as a place for
Marine One and Marine Two (the presidential helicopters) to land when president
Nixon was in office and prior to the Helipad being constructed behind his
three house compound on the western side of Key Biscayne. It is now
off limits and this picture was taken from boat, so don't have a cow.
