The Key Biscayne Picture of the view from 'Mashta House' property
March 23,2004
Mashta House, Mashta point, key biscayne

The location of the first Mashta House is now the site of a seawall and the expansive lawn of a house built on Mashta Point on Key Biscayne.  Once a place during the 60's, 70's, and 80's, where everyone who knew about this place would show up to watch the sunset.  Some of us used to pitch tent here and fish all night long.  A 13 foot Hammerhead Shark was caught right off of the dock here using a big hook and ski rope as the fishing line.  Many gamefish including Bonefish, Permit, Mangrove Snapper, Mackerel, and Barracuda are located right off of the tip of this property where the Bay empties out into the Atlantic and the Atlantic fills Biscayne Bay twice daily.  Without question, this location has more memories for more of the early settlers of Key Biscayne than any other.  The first house was built here, then a Community Church.  All washed out by early hurricanes.  The property sat vacant for years and years and it was during that time it was the unofficial meeting place for all young and old.
