The main entrance to the Nasdaq
100 Open Tennis Tournament that shows the entrance as seen walking on the
path that cuts through the median of the Rickenbacker Causeway just before
the entrance to the Village of Key Biscayne. After Nasdaq 100 open
fans have the privilege of paying $15.00 for the 2004 parking per day,
they get to walk hundreds of yards across asphalt hot enough to cook an
egg on to the not so well thought through main entrance. Not to worry
though, once inside, you can buy one of those bottles of bottled water
that sells everywhere else in the United States for 24 bottles for $2.99
for the low Nasdaq 100 open price of $3.50 each. Just their way of
saying thanks for visiting. When this tournament was started and
operated by Lipton (as in Lipton Tea) and called the Lipton tennis tournament
(which it is still called by locals to this day), they used to have teams
of greeting staff around this area passing out free bottles of Iced Tea
straight out of the tub of Ice. Now THAT was a nice refreshing touch.
