Cape Florida lighthouse and the toll
gate to the Bill Baggs state recreation area as seen from the 12th floor
of the Towers of Key Biscayne. On the horizon just to the right on
the water's surface and to the right of the radio tower (about halfway
to the end of the photo) is Soldier's Key and right on the edge of the
photo and to the right of Soldier's Key is the Ragged Keys (just north
of Boca Chita, Sands Key, and Elliott Key) and further South
is Key Largo. At one point in time, there was a plan to adjoin Key
Biscayne to these islands therefore connecting Key Biscayne to the rest
of the Florida Keys via bridge. At the same time, a bridge was also
planned for the northern side of Virginia Key which would have adjoined
Key Biscayne to Miami Beach. This decision made in the past saved
Key Biscayne from becoming another 'drive through' island and makes it
unique among the Florida Keys.
