The 'Miami Mountain'

Cyclists from all over the greater Miami area come out to the Rickenbacker Causeway to train on what
is lovingly referred to as the 'Miami Mountain'.  The 'Miami Mountain' is also known as the William Powell
Bridge.  Due to the length and the pitch of the bridge, joggers, runners, walkers, cyclists, and other atheletes
uses this bridge for training and strengthening.  The rest of the human race uses it for getting to or from
the mainland.  For boaters, and to give you an idea of the pitch of the bridge, it has a vertical clearance of
76 feet and a horizontal clearance of 120 feet.  From the perspective of this photograph, one can appreciate
what each biker finds out about halfway up.  It looks easier than it is and it is really steep and long.
Of course the fun of putting the energy into going uphill is the sheer joy (and many times high speeds) of the
experience of the long, long coast downhill.  Or in this case, downbridge.
