Lake Surprise.... yes, this is the entrance... SURPRISE!

A boat ride south of Key Biscayne down the intercoastal waterway will take you past the Ragged Keys,
Boca Chita Key, Sands Key, Elliott Key, Totten Key, Old Rhodes Key, Pumpkin Key, and on to Key Largo.
At Key Largo, out of the Jewfish Creek Channel, there is a break in the mangroves that is deep enough
to be called a channel.  On the other side of this channel, it is a surprise.  Lake Surprise.
A favorite anchorage for boats of all sizes to moor during severe weather, there are mangroves full of
boats that did not fare too well during such storms.  One of the great little spots that most people will drive
right past, lake surprise is an unmarked wonderful little spot.  If you need gas for your boat, get inside
Lake Surprise, go towards the only channel that you will see and take the first canal to the left.
There is a gas station there that abuts South Dixie Highway and has great gas prices with a pump
right on the water.  Just another pleasant surprise on Lake Surprise.
