Bomb Squad on Key Biscayne - Ready to detonate
After suiting up in layers of Kevlar and
communications gear, installing the detonation device and with the street
roped off, the officer at the controls
yells out "Fire in the Hole" "File in the Hole" "Fire in the Hole!" and
then
an attempt at detonation. The hand
grenade was shot with a special load from a remote 'gun'. Thankfully
this
Hand Grenade was disposed of without anyone
(including employees of the Waste Management or children
playing in piles of tree limbs) getting
hurt. There was no way to know if this explosive was 'live' or not
until
it was tested under these conditions.
It was possible that it could have alot worse.
If our local law enforcement is as successful
at finding out who did this as they are with recovering stolen
bicycles, whoever placed it there
will be among us for a long long time.
