Cape Florida Lighthouse with no condos on Key Biscayne

This postcard of Cape Florida lighthouse on the southern
point of Key Biscayne shows that this aerial photo was taken
before there were any condos built on Key Biscayne including
the first which was the "Island House"

Practically the same aerial angle as the postcard located
to the left except for the Island House now built and
breaking through the horizon of the Australian Pines.

A very rugged, rustic view of the natural state of Cape
Florida State Park in the mid to late 1960's. The jetties
that protrude into the water from the beach were meant
to slow down beach erosion caused by tropical storms and
the high seas that accompany them. They proved to be
virtually useless and have not been replaced since they
were left to rot in the Atlantic Ocean. The "state of the art"
55 gallon drums used for garbage however have been
replaced. The attire and size of the crowds have also changed.

A good postcard of the Cape Florida lighthouse
framed in by the Australian Pines that covered the Park.

Not a postcard, but rather a picture taken in August 2002
by the photographic team from our Oceanographic Division
of www.key-biscayne.com. The lighthouse "keepers
cottage" is located to the left of the lighthouse surrounded
by native trees and vegetation.
