1 Key Biscayne Postcards from the past

Key Biscayne 1907 postcard
The sender of the postcard brags in the writing above " This view is just as we saw it night before last.  It is not at all overdrawn. The sky looked very pretty last night also. The ocean is almost silver and the sky clear of clouds".

The lack of a zipcode and the 1 cent stamp show days gone past

Key Biscayne's new Rickenbacker Causeway between Crandon Park and Miami Florida

Postcard from the late 1940's shows an aerial view of the bridges that lead to Key Biscayne.  In the foreground is Bear Cut Bridge leading to the island in the middle of the postcard which is Virginia Key.  The Miami Seaquarium is now located on the left hand side of this picture.

Rickenbacker Causeway circa 1953 - Entrance to Key Biscayne
Soon after the completion of the roads and bridges that lead to Key Biscayne, a Toll Gate was installed with the understanding that it would only remain until the roads and the bridges were paid for. Admittance to Key Biscayne was 10 cents per vehicle.  Residents some years later were outraged when the price was increased to 25 cents per vehicle.  The toll as of 2004 is $1.00 per car.

1945 Key Biscayne postcard
This postcard sent in March of 1945 reads " It is really beautiful down here.  Lots of fun, excitement and wonderful swimming.  Wish you both could enjoy some of this.  Jack "   Some things just don't change.
