Crandon Park Beach - Memorial Day Key Biscayne 2005
Crandon Park Beach, Key Biscayne, Memorial Day, 2005.  There was not a parking space to be had since the day started off so
sunny and absolutely perfect for a day at the beach.  Thousands upon thousands of people swarmed to the public beach at Crandon Park
this day. The flow of traffic onto the beach did stop even after the cloud cover moved in.  Crandon Park Beach is ranked in the top ten
beaches in the world based on a number of factors, and this day, there was no question where these people wanted to be.
Boats can go from Crandon Marina, under the Bear Cut Bridge head south, and drop anchor and here you are.   A cruise ship is shown
above leaving the Port of Miami that has just left Government Cut in downtown Miami which is a few miles north of the northernmost
end of Key Biscayne, but these people here came by car.  Strollers, coolers, umbrellas and beach towels all in tow.
The smell of suntan lotion and barbeque of every flavor fills the humid overcast day as families and friends take up every available
inch of shade under the massive trees that make up the beach area of Crandon Park Beach.    Want to ride a 3 wheel
or take the whole family on a four wheel bike?  Check this out.  These are actually bikes that you can rent here at Crandon Park Beach.
The lifeguards had their hands full asyou can see from the hundreds of swimmers in the Atlantic Ocean.  Thankfully, there are no currents
and most all of the beachat Crandon Park is protected by a natural sandbar that runs the extent of the beach.  This keeps the large
surf well offshore and makes for perfect swimming and playing in the water conditions.  Children are easy to watch here, the water is fairly
shallow and wonderfully clean.  Well, at some times more so than others.  This day, many people were spared the sunburn and got to have
all of the fun that Crandon Park Beach without any of the redness and peeling.  It was a good day to celebrate the freedom that
we all can share because of the sacrifices of many good men today.  Not too hot, not raining, not cold, but the perfect overcast day.
