Confirmation that the Gas stations on Key
Biscayne are taking complete advantage of NO competition. There is
no thought given
to anyone who lives out here, to anyone
who is visiting here, and how life on Key Biscayne is actually lived out.
There are a handful of businesses here
on Key Biscayne where prices are actually in line with the rest of the
nation, and for
those businessmen and women who own shops,
business grows and increases by choice. Those of us who live here
go out
of our way to give our money to our neighbors
who own and operate business here on the Key. Thankfully we have
seen these
same businesses grow and thrive and survive.
Unfortunately, for ALL of us, there are a couple of businessmen who own
gas stations and hardware stores who charge
prices that are insulting and embarassing themselves for wearing their
greed
in full view for all to see. It
is immensely satisfying to see good business people thrive with decent
prices, fantastic service,
and to contrast that with those, who we
know, who are motivated by the love of money. Greed.
No sense of community, no sense of duty,
no sense of leadership, no sense of service. A burning desire to
achieve
contentment and happiness through a large
bank account. We here love to drive past the hardware store, the
shell station,
and get our necessities just 7 miles away,
saving countless dollars and giving our money to those who like what they
do.
The image below is to prove that the Gas
sign show above at the right is from what is normally amongst the highest
priced
gas in the country, down in the Florida
Keys, a wide shot of the gas station complete with the sign shown.
They have a
dock on the side of the station where
the prices are the same for all of us who enjoy boating. Take a look
below
at what you will pay our friends at Crandon
Park Marina for a gallon of gas. Unfortunately this picture was taken
a couple
of weeks ago when Super Unleaded Gas was
still less than $3.00 per gallon....so, if you can't spend enough money,
you can
throw some away by filling up your vehicle
at the Shell Station on Key Biscayne and then top up the boat at Crandon
Marina.

With no ability to see past their own agendas,
our Village Council here have closed down what was the 3rd gas station
on Key Biscayne.
We now have only two. One of these
is in the process of being sold. That will leave all of us here on
Key Biscayne with ONE Gas
Station owned by human parasites that
will undoubtedly hike the price by goodness knows how much the very moment
that the ONLY
competition is closed. In its eminent
ignorance, our untrustworthy leaders have forgotten that we do not have
a place to repair our
vehicles here on Key Biscayne when this
station closes. If your car breaks down on Key Biscayne, if you get
a flat tire and need a
simple repair, it will soon cost you piles
of cash to get back on the road again.
Thirty years ago, with probably 1/4 of the current population of Key Biscayne,
the island of Key Biscayne had a total of 6 Gas Stations.
Four of those Gas stations had bays for
cars so that we would not have to leave the Key in the event of a breakdown.
They all had
tow vehicles as well. It will prove
to be a nightmare of unreal proportion when the Village wakes up to the
fact that we don't have
anyone out here to tow vehicles onto the
swale and traffic jams are more of a problem than it is today. Oh
my.
In the meantime, if you love to throw
money away, this is the place to do it. If you don't see the sense
in paying nearly 40 cents a gallon
more for the priviledge of pumping your
own gas with a rude attendant taking your money, with restrooms that have
"Out of Order"
permanently attached to their doors, and
no facilities to fix your car, The Shell Gas Station is the place for you.
We reccommend two different stations on
Coral Way and 22nd Street. If you don't have the time to go over
to Coral Way and work
downtown or are headed north, we go to
the Gas Station at Dixie and 17th. The owners are really nice and
helpful and appreciate the
business. It is exactly 1 mile south
of the toll gate. The gas at 22nd is about 5 cents a gallon less
than the gas at 17th, but
either one is at least 25 - 30 cents per
gallon less than Shell.
If you need hardware, go to Shell Lumber
(Ironic isn't it?) and that is located at Dixie and 27th. Heading
south, turn on 27th and
you can park right in front of the store.
This store has EVERYTHING including really hard to find parts and the entire
staff is
extremely helpful and skilled. Completely
the opposite of shopping at the Key Biscayne Hardware store. There
are few bigger
ripoffs on the island, but percentage
markup for everyday items, the Hardware store on the Key has to take the
prize.
