Bear Cut Bridge - Memorial
Day on Key Biscayne
Oh my....sometimes it is just a better
idea to ride a bike around the island of Key Biscayne. Today was
one of those days.
These pictures were taken at approximately
5 o'clock PM and thankfully, for the sake of the traffic, it was an overcast
day with just
a bit of rain threatening on and off.
Had it been a picture perfect normal Key Biscayne day, then everyone would
have left the island
all at one time as opposed to this constant
flow off of the island. Fairly constant flow. It did stop as
shown below in front of Crandon
Beach just hours before. Click
here if you want to take a look at the what was going on at Crandon
Park Beach.
It was a mess. But nowhere near
as bad as it could have been. Notice the overcast sky? People
don't leave when the sun is still out.
It would have been hours and hours wait
to get off of the Key had it been any nicer out today. Part of this
is due to the boats coming
and going in and out of Crandon Marina.
Crandon Marina has become a joke all of its own, and of course the county
then has the
nerve to tow vehicles after charging them
to park, and allows the hundreds of vehicles in without any oversight.
Here is another view
of what so many Key Biscayne visitors
got to see today up and around the Bear Cut Bridge. Oh, if an accident
would have happened
along the causeway, one could just add
another couple of hours wait to travel the 6 miles off of Key Biscayne.
This does not happen often, but, it does
happen and every time it does our best and finest act suprised.
A very clear, real life demonstration
of our local governments at work. Money grabbing at one end and no
responsibility at the other.
At least the view
out of the window is beautiful. The price of living in Paradise.
Here is the view from the bike path
that runs along side of the Rickenbacker Causeway heading off of Key Biscayne.
The
buildings along Brickell Avenue and Miami
are on the horizon as a boat leaves Crandon Park Marina (left on photo)
with the
cars and other vehicles going up and over
the Bear Cut Bridge. A walk to the right (of the photo) will
take you to Crandon
Park Beach. If you would like to
see what Crandon Park Beach looked like on this Memorial Day, click
here.
While on the Bear Cut Bridge, one can
look to their right and see the northernmost point on Key Biscayne which
is pictured above.
This is one of the only fossilized mangrove
reefs in the world.
Key Biscayne is so rich in history and
is home to so many beautiful natural features that can be found nowhere
else in the world.
